There has been much discussion recently claiming that structured processes like Six Sigma are stifling innovation. The cover of the June 11th issue of Business Week showed a human head completely covered with Post-it notes. The cover article was titled, “3M’s Innovation Crisis – How Six Sigma Almost Smothered Its Idea Culture.” This program will provide contrasting perspectives on this dilemma, stimulate group discussion and show how the divergent thinking processes that promote creativity can and should coexist with the more typical convergent approach of six sigma processes. The Presenters: George Maszle, Director, Xerox Lean Six Sigma, Xerox Corporation George joined Xerox in 1969 and has had various opportunities to lead initiatives aimed at improving organizational effectiveness, the systematic use of quality concepts, Lean Six Sigma engagements and business process improvement. Prior to leading the Lean Six Sigma deployment, George’s responsibilities included positions in engineering, customer service, program launch planning and business support roles. In addition to serving on the board of the Greater Rochester Quality Council, George is an active member of the Conference Board - US Quality Council and a member of International Society of Six Sigma Professionals (ISSSP).
