Give Your Strategic Plan Legs - Applying Quality  Tools to Implementation and Tracking

An estimated two-thirds of strategic plans fail. However, when an organization’s mission is to help every child reach their fullest potential, failure is not an option.

Golisano Children’s Hospital (GCH) at University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) applied quality improvement to strategic planning and beat the odds to advance priorities for diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.

The strategic plan at GCH is now a nationally-published model. In this session, Dr. Jan Schriefer, Director of Quality and Patient Safety at GCH at URMC, will share this model with Rochester area organizations. Attendees will leave ready to test this dynamic strategic improvement process in their own workplace.

Redefining Quality in a Changing Industry - Collaboration in Journalism

Told from the perspective of an award-winning newspaper editor and journalist, this event is for any organization adapting to change in their industry. Attendees will learn practices to highlight solutions in favor of problems, assemble cross-functional teams, and launch growth strategies.

The  conversation features Karen Magnuson, Project Director of the  Solutions Journalism Network, who leads a media collaborative that  includes more than two dozen newsrooms and community partners in New  York and Michigan. She works with the collaborative on solutions  journalism that addresses issues related to caregivers of older adults.  Mike Kilian, Executive Editor at the Rochester Democrat  and Chronicle, will share additional perspective on quality and  excellence as a member of the collaborative.

The innovative framework from the Solutions Journalism Network unites newsrooms — often competitors — and community organizations into a common cause and redefines how and why stories get made.

Take Your Strategic Plans Off Mute - Quality Practices to Give Staff a Voice

Nearly half of nonprofit employees expect to seek new or different employers by 2025. Despite this potential disruption, effective management teams can still chart a course toward stability.

One mid-sized nonprofit serving community agencies and schools invested in new capacity to better understand workplace culture and its impact on employees.

This presentation will help attendees understand how to advance cultural change in any team or organization. Marjorie Allan, Director of the Center for Continuous Improvement at Children’s Institute, will share how the nonprofit created its survey, reviewed responses, communicated findings with employees, and followed through on recommendations.
