For five to seven years, nearly every organization in every sector or industry was navigating severe staffing shortages. But that seems to be shifting the last several of months, as a tightening economy is beginning to tighten the labor market: many employers are in a hiring freeze, and some are beginning to reduce their workforce. But here’s the thing: employee engagement is critical in both an expanding or contracting labor market! In either environment, engaging, motivating, and retaining your current star performers is important to providing good service, accomplishing goals, maintaining high productivity and other organizational outcomes.


The Performance Excellence Network — in partnership with the Wisconsin Center for Performance Excellence and the Iowa Quality Center and in cooperation with the Greater Rochester NY Quality Council — is pleased to host an online webinar discussion on Thursday, October 16: “Engaging Your Team in a Tightening Labor Market.” The discussion will feature three speakers, each from different sectors and each sharing methods, tools, and best practices that can enhance employee engagement.


Ben Bomar, President, Lithyus Group, will explore how the contemporary “9-Box Talent Grid” can be transformed from a ranking exercise to a tool that drives employee engagement. He will share strategies to celebrate, retain, and share team member expertise across each category of talent.


Stacy Wells, Executive Director, Health Equity and Learning & Development, State of Minnesota Direct Care & Treatment, will share how DCT is leveraging leadership to improve employee retention – of how more effective leaders create a working environment in which employees stay and thrive.


Tim Lippincott, Vice President of People Strategy, The Lifetime Healthcare Companies (Excellus Blue Cross Blue Shield in Rochester NY), will share best practices in their efforts to reimagine growth through skills and internal talent marketplaces — of how they are cultivating a culture of internal mobility, upskilling and reskilling, demonstrating how both approaches support lateral and hierarchical career moves.
