Give Your Strategic Plan Legs!

About the Event

An estimated two-thirds of strategic plans fail. However, when an organization’s mission is to help every child reach their fullest potential, failure is not an option.

Golisano Children’s Hospital (GCH) at University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) applied quality improvement to strategic planning and beat the odds to advance priorities for diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.

The strategic plan at GCH is now a nationally-published model. In this session, Dr. Jan Schriefer, Director of Quality and Patient Safety at GCH at URMC, will share this model with Rochester area organizations. Attendees will leave ready to test this dynamic strategic improvement process in their own workplace.

Over 30-40 minutes, Dr. Schriefer will explain how GCH used quality improvement to guide efforts with clear deliverables and specific metrics. Attendees are invited to ask questions, address improvement processes from their own strategic plans, and discuss their own initiatives to advance diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.

Presenter

A GRQC Board Director since 2019, Dr. Jan Schriefer is Director of Quality and Patient Safety at GCH at URMC and Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. She also consults on improving care for newborns worldwide. Dr. Schriefer holds a BSN and 2014 Distinguished Alumni Award from Hartwick College, a combined MBA/MSN from University of Vermont, and a Doctorate in Public Health Management and Policy from the University of Michigan Ann Arbor.
