About the Event
Medical marijuana is one of the most exciting, important and controversial new industries in New York and the nation. Columbia Care is the nation's largest and most experienced manufacturer and provider of medical marijuana products and services. Â By providing a portfolio of high-quality cannabis-based health and wellness solutions, leveraging data and research to fuel innovation, and improving access to cannabis and plant-based solutions, Columbia Care aims to lead this industry into the future. Today's program will provide an overview of New York's medical marijuana program and regulations, and will focus on ensuring quality in the cultivation processes for various products. Â It will cover:
- Columbia Care's operation in Rochester
- Flow map of cannabis cultivation process
- Products produced, and differences in cultivation required
- Key variables, risks and controls
- GMP, GAP and HAACP
- IPM (integrated pest management) program
Presenters
James Boyd is the Operations Director for Columbia Care. Â He has held a variety of management roles in quality, engineering, operations, and research & development, and is recognized for building strong teams that develop robust products and processes. He previously held leadership roles in Kodak's printed electronics and consumer inkjet businesses, and was worldwide quality manager for Kodak's single use camera business. Â Jim has a BS in mechanical engineering from MIT and an MS in mechanical engineering with a concentration in operations management from Northwestern University. He is a certified Six Sigma Black Belt Practitioner, a certified New Product Development Professional, and holds 22 patents for his inventions. Â Jim is the Board Vice-Chair of GRQC.Â
Casey Berg is a plant scientist and is currently Cultivation Manager for Columbia Care's indoor grow operation in Rochester, NY. Â Casey graduated from Rutgers University with a BS in Plant Science in 2014, then worked briefly as a horticulture inspector for the New York State Department of Agriculture before joining Columbia Care in 2015 as one of its first employees in Rochester. Â Casey currently manages a team of five cultivation technicians in Rochester, and collaborates frequently with his counterparts in Columbia Care's other 15 operations across the US. Â Casey is a local expert in CEA (Controlled Environment Agriculture), and is a frequent participant in GRQC events, including attendance at GRQC's Quality for Leaders training.Â
